Carry skis and poles to the practice area

Choose a manageable route, organise equipment before leaving and ask for a suitable carrying method. Fewer loose items make finding the meeting point easier.

A person carrying skis over a shoulder.

Two skis, two poles and a bag can complicate a short walk to a lesson. On the first morning, you also need attention for signs and the meeting place. Organise the equipment somewhere calm before moving. There is no need to sort it, read messages and search for the group all at the same time.

Let the route shape your preparation

Ask the rental shop for the intended pedestrian route to the practice area. Check doors, stairs and possible bag storage. An apparently direct connection on a map is not necessarily the permitted equipment route. If you would need a long walk, investigate storage nearer the lesson. Carry only the items the course actually requires. Another shopping bag or loose everyday shoes will not make the journey easier to manage.

Organise equipment before leaving the shop

Ask the rental staff to demonstrate how the issued skis should be held together and the poles arranged for the walk. Request a carrying method suited to your height and the route. A technique that looks comfortable for someone else need not fit you. Use any carrying aid according to its instructions and establish whether it must be removed and stored before instruction begins.

Allow time for changes of direction

Long equipment needs more room at doors and in narrow waiting areas than your body alone. Choose a quiet place to adjust your hold and notice where ski ends and pole tips are. Ask for help before repeatedly rearranging everything in a crowd.

Keep your phone and booking details in one accessible place so answering a simple question does not require sorting all the equipment again. Prepare the route information before starting rather than reading the map continuously while carrying unfamiliar items.

Use a definite storage point at the lesson

Ask the instructor where equipment should wait before the start and how you can recognise your pair. A photograph of the rental identification can help, provided you take it somewhere appropriate and calm. Do not put equipment in a passage simply because there is space. Plan the return too: will the storage and rental shop be accessible, and where will you retrieve your ordinary bag? An organised finish prevents the same search beginning again after the lesson.

Manageable carrying starts with a suitable route and organised equipment. Have the handling demonstrated, reduce loose items and use clear storage points. That leaves more attention for the surroundings instead of making every turn into another task of rearranging skis, poles and personal belongings.
