OTG indicates that goggles are intended to be worn over prescription glasses. It does not establish whether your particular frame fits comfortably inside. Wide arms, tall lenses, and the position on your nose all vary. Bring your everyday glasses and helmet to the fitting, and compare the complete arrangement before choosing a lens colour or additional accessories for the goggles.
Use your own frame as the reference
First position your prescription glasses as you normally wear them. Then put the suitable goggles over them according to their instructions. Check whether the frame stays in place or shifts during fitting. A candidate that works only with your everyday glasses sitting crookedly is not convincing.
Pay particular attention around the arms and nose bridge. Giro describes additional internal space and shaped areas for spectacle arms in its OTG designs. That shape still needs to accommodate your particular frame. Compare several models rather than cutting away padding or bending the frame yourself.
Test with the helmet and normal strap adjustment
Adjust the helmet according to its instructions and reassess the goggles. The helmet should not shift them in a way that increases pressure on the glasses underneath. Adjust the goggle strap appropriately; tightening it further does not reliably compensate for unsuitable internal space.
Wear the combination for several minutes. Look forwards, sideways, and down, and move your jaw while speaking. Check whether the arms feel uncomfortable between your head and equipment or whether you repeatedly want to readjust. Also assess putting everything on and taking it off without pulling on delicate frame parts.
Consider ventilation and breaks
Leave intended ventilation openings clear and follow the care guidance for both pairs of glasses. A frame inside the goggles creates additional surfaces that need to be kept clean and protected in everyday use. A brief indoor fitting cannot promise that the combination will remain fog-free in every kind of weather.
Plan a calm, sheltered place to remove the equipment and a suitable case for your prescription glasses. If an OTG arrangement does not work well for your frame, seek advice about appropriate alternatives, such as a prescription insert designed for the particular system. Questions about vision correction require specialist advice rather than another adjustment to strap tension.
Record the exact OTG model and test it with the same prescription frame you will bring. Comfort comes from all the pieces working together. If pressure or frequent movement is apparent during fitting, another suitable arrangement makes more sense than hoping you will get used to it on the mountain.
